THERE COULDN’T BE a bashment soca section without the king.

Stiffy Star Quality gave the MQI/98.1 The One Soca Royale patrons a short but sweet two-song set, which included his winning song Tip An Ben Ova.

The crowd, which continued to build at 6:30 p.m., minutes before the start of the first competition, the Party Monarch, was given a bashment soca treat with an overload of DJ music by Timeless, Verseewild and Indian, along with Chris Gayle, and short performances by some of the bashment soca artistes.

The first to take the stage was Hardware, singing a snippet of Pop Down, followed by Wood expert Scrilla, Lady Essence, who gave an energetic performance of Fluffy Gal Anthem as her fluffy backup dancers kept up the pace and showed just how fit they were.

Verseewild moved from behind the laptop to perform Up It with Joe Cloudy.

Indian and Chris Gayle served up a Sunday meal of past calypsos before adding the dessert of the popular Crop Over 2017 tunes that had the crowd singing along.

Scrilla brought the Wood.
