No more competing for Ricky T

St Lucian soca king Ricardo Ricky T Joseph has called it a day in the competition ring, and is now turning his attention to a musical journey. He was speaking to Weekend Buzz at Sunday’s Tipsy All-White event at Daiquiri Beach, Pirates Cove, The City. “Music is always a mission; that’s why I’m moving away from the competition. I’m gonna keep it missionary and try to pull a camp, soI can teach the younger ones how music goes, and how to behave because some of them have a kind of attitude that they need to change.

He was speaking to Weekend Buzz at Sunday’s Tipsy All-White event at Daiquiri Beach, Pirates Cove, The City.

“Music is always a mission; that’s why I’m moving away from the competition. I’m gonna keep it missionary and try to pull a camp, soI can teach the younger ones how music goes, and how to behave because some of them have a kind of attitude that they need to change.

“Before they get a hit they all up there. You have to know how to be humble and be you,” he explained, adding he had earned 20 titles since 2009 and had “nothing else to prove”.

Currently Ricky T, who is famous for the phrase “Wham to Dem”, said he was working on a show in his homeland, and would be touring afterward.

“I’m working on my show back home – Ricky T And Friends. The next stop is focusing on touring. I’m going to the Uber Soca Cruise, Miami Carnival, New York, London and Texas to name a few. And this is all before the year is finished. Soca is happy music, so I’m out to enjoy the vibe,” he said. (RA)
